ABOUT ABOUT

Build, explore, and share your own immersive 3D environments with Unity Game Engine. Unity is a full featured, cross-platform game engine that is used by hobbyist and professionals to create games, architectural models, teaching tools and digital art. The best part about it is it’s free!

Unity incorporates 3D modeling, physics simulation, animation, and scripting to make interactive interfaces for both game and non-game, 2D or 3D applications.

This three-part course will get you started creating your own 3D No experience needed. 14+ encouraged.

Exploration and experimentation between sessions are encouraged, so we recommend you bring your own laptop with you to class. Before class begins please download and install the unity game engine and create a Unity account. This will allow you to save your project and continue working on it throughout the weeks.

CLASS 1 - Getting to Know Unity: Starting off, we will be looking at some examples of projects to get an idea of what is possible with this versatile application. Then we will begin with creating a terrain environment to help familiarize ourselves with the menu layouts and some basic tools and concepts.

CLASS 2 - Explore Your World: In the second class we will be inserting a player controller that will allow us to navigate the environment that we’ve created, as well as learn how to set parameters and basic camera options. We will also be looking at how to create different types of materials used throughout the game environment.

CLASS 3 - Build and Share: The great thing about Unity is it’s cross platform compatibility. For this class we will be going over the basics of using scripts which will add a few more functions to our game, as well as looking at online resources for more assets to experiment with. When we are done, we will be able to export the final project that can be run as a standalone Mac or PC application that can easily be shared with whomever you like!
