ABOUT ABOUT

Inherited a sewing machine from your grandmother that’s currently functioning as the world’s heaviest paperweight?  Need some new bedroom curtains so you can stop giving the neighbors a show?  Don’t know where or how to begin?  This is the class for you! over the course of the afternoon you’ll learn the basics of sewing to become the crafty envy of all your friends.  We’ll cover sewing machine operation, how to sew the basic stitches, choosing fabrics, using a pattern, and other sewing essentials. Plus, you’ll go home with a finished tote bag made by YOU!

All materials, supplies and sewing machines are provided. However, if you have have a special fabric that you'd like to use feel free to bring it along.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

Samantha Wittchen is a designer, artist and maker living and working in Philadelphia.  She's been sewing since she was nine years old, when her grandmother first taught her how to thread a bobbin.  After sewing casually for years (a set of curtains here, a duvet cover there...), she decided to get more serious about it in 2013, when she embarked on a year-long effort to become a better seamstress by completing one sewing project per month and writing about it on her blog.  Sam enjoys teaching others how to make stuff with their hands and is excited to share her love of sewing at DM+D.
